Sunrise on the Port of Racine - What our boaters live for..

This section of the site is going to be a bit better than the history pages because these will be YOUR stories of the club and it’s members and the truth as YOU remember it!.  Email me the stories and the pictures that may go along with these Old Salt Stories.  As in all stories told, it is in the view, the opinion, the altered memory of the story teller.  So dig out those old photos and remember what you will and the best stories can be voted on for a future prize in December! I am sure John Schmitt can add a few and bartenders, too!

now it could even have a story like this......

"Members of the 5th St Yacht Club" went in after their buddy Curly so he  wouldn't end up on that Plaque again but only came up with the Beast of the Mighty Root" - Curly was no where to be found. They eventually let it go only to have it dawn on them that Curly might still might be INSIDE the BEAST !! - both were never seen again but the guy on the end said - "that might be
the nicest tail he had in a really long long time". The guy in the middle is a certified fish doctor ....and claimed he was only checking the sex of the Beast. He didn't hear that male voice at the time of the Beast’s Release in a deep echo emanating from the beast, it just said "Hey, watch it !"

Another Day on The River  - Check this one out

Hey, I need a favor!! Do you know someone that wants a puppy? My neighbor has a puppy he's giving away (FREE!). It's a Dachshund, it's house broken, and is great with kids. He's giving it away because his wife says the dog 'stares' at her when she is undressing, and that gives her the 'Heebie Jeebies.

I think she's just getting a bit weird! If you're interested, or know someone who is, let me know. Here's a picture of the dog.

LITTLE KNOWN NAVAL HISTORY..... ......

The U.S.S. Constitution (Old Ironsides), as a combat vessel, carried 48,600 gallons of fresh water for her crew of 475 officers and men. This was sufficient to last six months of sustained operations at sea. She carried no evaporators (i..e. fresh water distillers!) .

However, let it be noted that according to her ship's log, "On July 27,1798, the U.S.S. constitution sailed from Boston with a full complement of 475 officers and men, 48,600 gallons of fresh water, 7,400 cannon shot, 11,600 pounds of black powder and 79,400 gallons of rum." Her mission: "To destroy and harass English shipping."

Making Jamaica on 6 October, she took on 826 pounds of flour and 68,300 gallons of rum.  Then she headed for the Azores , arriving there 12 November. She provisioned with 550 pounds of beef and 64,300 gallons of Portuguese wine.

On 18 November, she set sail for England. In the ensuing days she defeated five British men-of-war and captured and scuttled 12 English merchant ships, salvaging only the rum aboard each.

By 26 January, her powder and shot were exhausted. Nevertheless, although unarmed she made a night raid up the Firth of Clyde in Scotland. Her landing party captured a whisky distillery and transferred 40,000 gallons of single malt Scotch aboard by dawn. Then she headed home.

The U.S.S. Constitution arrived in Boston on 20 February, 1799, with no cannon shot, no food , no powder, no rum, no wine, no whisky, and 38,600 gallons of water.

Historical Note – thank God that the Vebmeister didn’t live back then or they might have had to come back by Halloween and we never would have won those battles.  and a side note, we went to Boston and took the tour and the guide immediately told me to get out - Marines belong out on the dcck! You are way to TALL !
